Imbayah is an eleven-day prestige feast performed by an achangyan (rice person/ family in the traditional sense) generally to get the recognition as a true achangyan by the tribe members and rarely as a cure for a prolonged illness after other rituals had failed to cure the illness. In a joking or serious manner, a tribe member may say to a member of an achangyan family: “O, achangyan ayo mo agge ayo bimmayah”, (yes you are rich but you did not perform the imbayah). This implies that the family has not yet reached the category of a true achangyan.
